exploring migration, family, craftsmanship and the changing face of British industry

Currently in production

Set in one of the last South Asian-run textile factories in the Black Country, this short documentary tells the story of Bhulla’s father, an Indian-born craftsman who continues to make traditional British wax and tweed coats from a factory in his family’s backyard.

Through the relationship between father and son, the film explores migration, family, craftsmanship and the changing face of British industry. As Bhulla looks more closely at his father’s life and work, he begins to uncover the sacrifices, traditions and experiences woven into every garment.

At its heart, Factory Dad is a story about family, identity and the legacy we pass between generations, set against a changing industrial landscape.
