Simon Says/Dadda 2023

An exhibition by Birmingham and London based artist Beverley Bennett. Comprising a newly commissioned 3-channel installation. Simon Says/Dadda is a collaborative project exploring father/daughter relationships among Black and Asian women and non-binary individuals, highlighting the deep impact that structural inequalities have within wider society.

Screen Dance programmer, Flatpack Film Festival

Sima is the resident screen dance programmer for BAFTA qualifying Flatpack Film Festival.

Sima delivers bespoke training programmes in screen dance, including masterclasses, industry panels and an annual curated dancefilm programme. 2020 programme receives a 4-star Guardian review.

Ongoing collaboration capturing the process and outcomes of Chris Wight’s bone china work, using artistic video and sonic documentation.

Sky Arts ‘Unlocked’

Part of 2022 Coventry City of Culture, Sky Arts have dedicated their support to the region’s emerging film talent. It has awarded some of Coventry’s brightest creative filmmakers grants to create a new series of short films that will explore ideas around freedom.

Beverly Bennett, 'Nation's Finest'

Rooting the work in her home region and hosting city, Bennett pays homage to the pioneering Black Art Group and its legacy and influence on the art scene and her practice more personally. Bennett's multifaceted work will comprise of local gatherings, photographic public billboards and a short film displayed on digital live sites across Wolverhampton, Coventry and Birmingham.

Sima Gonsai is a visual artist and independent filmmaker from the UK with a passion for artistic storytelling in dance and film. For the past twelve years, she has directed and produced regional and international work in film, screen dance, drama and digital installation.

    Broadcast credits include BBCArts, SkyArts, B2022 Cultural Festival for The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Sima is a resident curator for BAFTA qualifying Flatpack Film Festival, a judge for One Dance UK and screendance festivals across the globe.
